Hayland Township in Mille Lacs County, Minnesota, was named for its hay production. According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has an estimated population of 487 residents and a total area of 36.0 square miles (93 km2), of which 35.9 square miles (93 km2) is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2), or 0.14%, is water.

The township is part of the larger region that was inhabited by the Dakota and Ojibwe people for centuries. In the 1740s, the Ojibwe displaced the Dakota, who relocated to southern and western territories. The township is one of many square townships (6 miles by 6 miles) that were surveyed in Minnesota.
